What to see in and around Cali
Cali is considered the world capital of salsa, but apart from that there are many places to discover in and around Cali. There is a Gold Museum, that shows a lot of pieces of the Calima culture, there are several places for a nice view over the city, such as the Cerro de las tres Cruces or also the Parque San Antonio. Besides that a walk around the historical center and the Boulevard is also worth an afternoon.
Things to see in Cali
La Tertulia
Even though Cali has five Art Schools there are not so many places to exhibit. La Tertulia is the Museum of Modern Art and shows changing exhibitions of modern and contemporary art.
Street Art Walking Tour
There is a street art walking tour offered at Calle de la Escopeta. But you can also do it individually, as the best pieces are concentrated around that street.
Loma de la Cruz
This is a little park with small shops of artesanias. And even if you don’t buy anything it’s worth a look. Tip: there are two small excellent Restaurants nearby.
Around Cali
San Cipriano
San Cipriano is a small afro-colombian village at a clear mountain river. Here is a good place to relax and take a cool bath. But the most exciting is the way to get to San Cipriano, as there is no street connection between the village and the outside world. Only a railway passes by the village. Therefore the habitants constructed “brujitas” out of motorcycles, wood and small wheels.
To get to San Cipriano you will need to take a bus (24’000Col$/7.75Us$) from Cali to Buenaventura and hop of at Cordoba. After walking down (bus is between 1’000-2’000Col$/0.30-0.65Us$) to the village you will need to buy a ticket for the “brujita” (12’000Col$/3.90Us$ both ways) and wait until they arrive. Don’t worry there is enough of them, you don’t need to take the very first one. I recommend to go there during the week, as at the weekends there is also a lot of locals going to enjoy the river. There is also accommodation in San Cipriano, but as the variety of food is small, I recommend to do a full day only, if you are vegetarian or vegan. I ate at “la tia”, where they could offer me a vegetarian/vegan plate consisting rice, salad and a patacon. There is fruits available and coconuts too, but other kind of snack has to be brought with.

La Barra
La barra is a beautiful beach which can be reached via boat from Buenaventura.

In Cali I stayed at el aguacate hostel in San Antonio. It’s brand-new and they offer tasty vegan breakfast if you ask them. Very clean and very friendly with beautiful minimalistic bedrooms.
