  • The Angel of Death

Driving around la Guajira made me meet several situations… First I saw a goat bound on a motorbike in the hot midday sun crying for help. The owner of the bike just left it there while being on the market or having lunch, who knows… It was heartbreaking. On the way back I saw a whole pickup truck full of goats bound the same way (legs together), lying on the roof too… crying too. Animals have a voice, people are only deaf for it. Is it the language we don’t want to understand? Then at some point the driver of the colectivo crossed himself seeing a dog on the street.…

  • Excursion: La Guajira

The Guajira Peninsula is the most northern part of South America. It is also one of the most beautiful landscapes you will find in Colombia. In my opinion it can definitely compete with the desserts of Bolivia.

  • What to see around Santa Marta

Santa Marta is not so special itself, but there is some things around you would like to get to know. As Santa Marta has not much to offer except lots of mosquitoes, I recommend to spend as few time as possible within Santa Marta (and use enough repellent I saw the tiger mosquito flying around). If you like it more touristy Taganga, a small fishermans village next to Santa Marta is the place to stay.

  • What to see in Cartagena

Cartagena is said to be the most beautiful city of Colombia. And it is in fact colorful and of beauty in it’s historic center. But the surroundings of that destroys all the beautiful impressions immediately, when you leave. Due to its importance in the history of South America, there are also some interesting places to visit.

  • Colombian Cuisine

Colombian cuisine can be divided into six regions, which are given by geography. Thus, the food differs from the Pacific coast, the Andes, the Caribbean coast, the Amazon basin and the Orinoco. Colombia also includes two Caribbean islands, where the cuisine is different. The dishes of these cuisines are different because of the different ingredients that are found in each region and the ethnic groups that live there. The Pacific coast, for example, is very influenced by Afro-Colombians. Vegetarian and vegan food is easily available in Colombia. But if you end up in a village on the edge of the world, rice and beans with patacones and salad are actually…

  • What to see in Medellín

Entering Medellín already let’s you know that this is a vivid, economic and cultural city with an interesting background. But reducing this background to the biography of Pablo Escobar, would not honor the city in any way. There is much more to discover. I must say, I haven’t done much in Medellín. Which might have had something to do with my business of using the fully equipped kitchen and visiting a shop with locally produced vegan shoes.

If you want to see all of them it is necessary to stay longer, but as there is repetition it is not necessary to see all.

  • Sweet Hummingbird

Hummingbirds are small quick flying animals, birds. In Mindo there are also some species of hummingbirds. But as they drink nectar of flowers in the forest, they don’t show up in town. Well, that’s logic.
