Swiss Supermarkets Compared
This year during Veganuary, in January, I shopped at a different supermarket each week. To conclude this series, I would like to do a quick price comparison for individual products. When I think of a price comparison, I immediately imagine a nice clear table that shows me all the data. But to make sure that is not all, I would like to record what I have done in a short commentary.
Basically, I already tried to buy the same products in January. But that wasn’t very everyday-friendly, because no one wants to eat the same thing for four weeks. My shopping list looked like this:
- 2 types of fruit
- 3 lemons
- Herbs
- 1 x dark green leafy vegetable
- 1 x cruciferous vegetables
- other vegetables
- Plant drink
- Tofu
- vegan yoghurt
- 1 processed product

At Lidl, Migros and Coop you can look up the products and their prices online. At Alnatura and Aldi, this is only possible for some of the products, which is why there were empty spaces in the table. As already described in the previous articles, the organic quality is best at the Coop, according to labelinfo.ch, because Coop offers almost exclusively products with the Bioknospe. So if you only buy organic products there, you get off better than at Alnatura, where the organic quality leaves a lot to be desired. This is also reflected in the price. If you have to watch your budget, you should go to Lidl. The organic quality is just as good as in Migros, but it is a bit cheaper. When comparing organic quality, I refer to the labelinfo.ch site, but I am open to suggestions.
