What to see in Villa de Leyva
Villa de Leyva is one of the nicest colonial cities of Colombia. Besides that there is a lot to see around it. But also only visiting the village is worth the trip. At weekends there are a lot of people from Bogotá invading the place, so it’s better to visit during the week.
One day could be a trip by foot or by bicycle to the Casa Terracotta, Pozos Azules, Amonita, el Fossil and the Observatorio Solar de Muisca.
Another excursion could be to the Santuario Iguaque, where you can hike and enjoy nature.
But there is also a nice viewpoint just above the city to climb.
There are some vegan options in town, but all restaurants are above Colombian price standard, to save money, it’s worth to have a kitchen in the accommodation.
I stayed at the Hostel Magma. A small accommodation with a house like flair, very nicely decorated with art, hot showers, comfortable beds, a good clean basic kitchen and water for free.
