What to see in La Paz

La Paz is one of the two capitals of Bolivia. There is several things to do in and around La Paz. Some activities are for adventurous people whereas others are for all. Here are some suggestions.

Teleféricos:

A tour around the city always includes taking at least one or two teleféricos. The red and the yellow line are recommendable but actually you can take any to get to know the city from another perspective. Each ride cost only 3 bob/0.45$.

Witches market:

A walk through the witches market is another activity. Here you find mainly souvenirs but also some creepy stuff as dead animals and healing herbs. You can also let somebody read your hand if this is you’re thing. I have to admit, this is not the most vegan place on earth, but nobody forces you to buy anything and keeping the eyes open in our life helps.

The death road:

If you are adventurous this is the right thing for you. But consider, it’s a tourist attraction, nothing more and nothing less. And as the road is closed for public traffic it isn’t the worlds dangerous road anymore. You only meet fellow tourists on bikes here. Barracuda Biking is a recommendable company. The day trip costs 570 bob/84$. It includes a English/Spanish tour guide, first aid equipment and certified guides, private transport and rescue vehicle, snacks, unlimited fresh water, lunch (make sure to ask for vegan food before booking), free T-shirt, free photos, full suspension and hardtail bikes, relaxation and lunch buffet in a private hotel.

Huayna Potosí:

This mountain is the destination of many tourists, it’s the so called easiest 6000 meters high mountain. There are many tour operators selling you a 2-3 day tour to climb the peak. Please make sure to inform yourself good in advance, check if it’s your level of climbing/hiking and if you are in the right physical condition for it before doing it. You should definitely be free of vertigo.
