Excursion: The Colca Canyon
The Colca Canyon is one of the deepest canyons in the world. To go hiking you best take the bus from Arequipa to Cabanaconde, where there start several treks with different difficulties.
It is also possible to do just some walks to different miradores but if you have time I recommend you to do one of the two, three or four day treks, as you climb down the canyon it gets even more impressive.
A recommendable hostel is Pachamama Home in Cabanaconde, they also have a vegan friendly restaurant with a delicious Pizza and provide you with a detailed hiking map as well as all the information you need. There is also a roof terrace and Laundry Service. (Dorm is 35 Soles/10.50$)
Park entrance costs 70 Soles/21$ and is valid for five days. The bus from or to Arequipa costs 17 Soles/5$.
There is no supermarket and no ATM in Cabanaconde so be sure to take enough money with you. Minimarkets are available, but have no big variety.
Cruz del Condor viewpoint
This is the must see viewpoint to watch the condors rising. To go there take the earliest bus from Cabanaconde in direction of Arequipa and ask to leave at Cruz del Condor (2 Soles/0.60$), as the Condors are mainly seen in the morning. However if you want to avoid the other tourists you can also take the bus at 11:30 and with a bit of luck you will see one or two Condors.
Information for further trekking can be found on the website of Pachamama hostel (link above).
Is it vegan?
This is depending on your own behaviour. Be sure to be aware that you are hiking in a protected area. Respect Nature (flora and fauna) and take your rubbish back home. It is recommended not to hike alone for your own safety.
