Excursion: Perito Moreno

Perito Moreno is one of the only Glaciers that is still growing. Or maybe you should say it’s the only one that grows faster than it melts.

To go there you usualy stay in El Calafate, a town that only lives on the glacier tourism. Therefore it is not very nice, nothing special.

The tour shouldn’t cost more than 45$. The alternative tour that I did (and is recommended by LP) took the old road to the park and was visiting an estancia on the way (and therefore is not vegan) and doing a little trek to the lake. Finally we reached the park (park entrance: 30$) where everybody could walk free. It was also possible for an additional cost of 30$ to take a boat, but you only have another angle to the glacier. While boarding the boat you might miss some of the big icebergs falling.

If you go individual, the public bus costs you about 30$ as well, so the cheapest way is hitchhiking. This is easy because a lot of Argentine tourists drive on their own.

I stayed at the Del Glaciar Libertador Hostel & Suites, which I do not recommend at all. Because they already made the payment in advance and two months later they wrote me that I have to pay the hostel, because the payment didn’t work. Furthermore there were more details to mention. Breakfast is big but not vegan. Toasts, eggs, honey, dulce de leche, pan cakes, cereals, jam, cakes, tea and coffee.
