What to see in Villa O’Higgins

Villa O’Higgins is the starting point or the end point of your trip to el Chaltén. It is also the starting point

of another trekking route to Cochrane (where you can take another trekking route to Chile Chico). And yes, it is the beginning or end of the Carretera Austral. And there are more treks to do around the area.

Therefore most hostels, there are four of them, are construed for this. There are about four minimarkets, no bank and a public library with free wifi.

How to get away:

There are two bus companies with connections to Caleta Tortel or Cochrane some times a week. One is near the plaza de armas at the Lago Christies (to Cochrane). The other is at the Lago Cisnes near the crossing with Rio Bravo (to Caleta Tortel, with connections to Cochrane).

The Carretera Austral between Villa O’Higgins and Caleta Tortel is marvelous. Caleta Tortel itself is also worth stay.
