The International Veg Fest in Arequipa

The fact that Arequipa, the second largest city of Peru, has a Veg Fest already shows that this country is on a good way to be one of South Americas vegan friendly states.

Of course I didn’t knew about it until I was told, and it was just simply a good timing to get to know Peru a bit better and buy some products I was longing for or I needed to replace, such as sunscreen, soap and some vegan T-shirts. But I also did some research and this is my result.

It sounds a bit strange, but not all products were vegan. There were also a lot of natural products and organic ones, that were not necessarily vegan, such as honey and other… In general there were food stores, restaurants, Cosmetic stores, esoteric stores, jewellery stores and fashion stores presented. But there were also speeches being hold, concerts, dog adoption, kitchenware, supplements, South American power plants and of course food.

Among others there was SwissJust, a company which has its factory right around the corner of my (so called) “hometown”. I couldn’t find out if their products are vegan, but as they anyway do mainly aroma therapy, which I’m not interested in, it does not matter for me personally. (I will continue my research on it, as I hope it is vegan, nevertheless).

I bought my sunscreen and my soap at the booth of Huitco Naturalis. They use organic medicinal plants as a base of their cosmetics. You can find their store at Av. Cayma 202 in Arequipa (huitca.naturalis@gmail.com).

Kinwa sell products out of Quinoa, such as Quinoa and Quinoa flour, which you can add to all kinds of food and drink. Honestly, I didn’t understand the sense in that. Maybe it is to enrich the omnivore diet.

Gea sell all kinds of organic seeds and germs to grow them at home (and unfortunately also products originated from bees).
