Social advantages
70% of the world’s soybean crop is processed into feed. In the process, 65-90% is lost to processing losses. This means, for example, it takes 7 kg of grain to produce 1 kg of beef. Mathematically, with reduced meat consumption, more grain and other foods could be used to feed humanity, and minimizing world hunger would be possible.
Those who prefer to distort low-processed foods prepare them fresh. In the longer term, this leads to better knowledge of food, which contributes to one’s own food culture. This promotes appreciation and creates greater freedom in creativity; cooking becomes a social experience.
Certain organic labels do not allow feed imports or have strict limits on protein feeds. From a purely social point of view, it therefore makes sense to pay attention to organic products.
By buying seasonal and regional products, one supports local organic farmers, conserves resources and it promotes the anticipation of certain seasonal products.
With products like coffee or chocolate, there is strong branding without reference to the place of origin. Moreover, the added value remains in the richer country. Therefore, it is important to resort to Fairtrade foods for these products. In the long term, these ensure a better quality of life, self-determination and the financing of social programs, such as schools, health facilities and social security, for the farmers. A ban on child labor (71% of child labor is in agriculture) gives children the chance for education and childhood.
