What to do in Bartica
Bartica is a miners town at the confluence of the Essequibo and Mazaruni. There is not much to do except going to the Marshall falls and some indigenous villages.
The Marshall falls are not even worth seeing, it’s just a normal mountain river with swimming options. So if go there don’t forget your swimming suit. By the way it’s about 15km from the town and a taxi costs 10’000 GYD (47.95 CHF/42.48€) both ways.
The town itself does not have vegan options in their restaurants. There is only a tasty Chinese restaurant Wei Fung (rice or pasta with veggies) and a Fast food store (french fries and some vegetarian options).
However if you still want to go to Bartica here is some places good to know:
- Wei Fung Hotel (Lat 6.40905 Lon -58.62163)
- Scotiabank (Lat 6.40342 Lon -58.61994)
- Wei Fung Restaurant (Lat 6.40451 Lon -58.61854)
- Fast Food Store (Lat 6.40525 Lon -58.61835)
- Supermarket (Lat 6.40226 Lon -58.61896)
- Towns market (Lat 6.40273 Lon -58.61891)
How to get there:
First you take a minibus line 32 (500 GYD/2.40 CHF/2.12€), which starts in front of the Parliament building, from Georgetown to Parika. There you go to the port and take a speed boat (2500 GYD/12 CHF/10.62€) to Barica, just ask. The whole journey takes about 4 hours including 2 hours of waiting in the vehicles to be full.
