How to go from Georgetown to Paramaribo
After getting the visa for Suriname you can take a bus to Moleson Creek, cross the border and take another bus to Paramaribo. This takes about two days.
From Georgetown to Springlands
At the busstop (Lat 6.81098 Lon -58.16585) where busses to Moleson Creek leave, take a bus. There are men that might tell you there is no bus to Springlands and you need to take a taxi, but there is. The bus leaves as soon as it’s full costs 1’500 GYD (7.20 CHF/6.36€) and the ride takes about 3-4 hours. I recommend to spend the night in Springlands. The Swiss Guest House has very simple rooms for 2’500 GYD (12.05 CHF/10.63€) without or for 3’500 GYD (16.85 CHF/14.89€) with private bathroom. About hundred meters away is a Chinese restaurant, to get some rice with vegetables and water (800 GYD/3.35 CHF/2.96€).

Huge portion of rice.
Crossing the border
The next morning you take a collective taxi, that drives you to the border. The owner of the hotel told me I need to be there at 6:30 but the ferry leaves at 10:30 so 8 o’clock might be alright too. At 6:30 the border control and ticket office opens. A one way ticket for a single person costs 3135 GYD (15.00 CHF/13.25€). Make sure to change you GYDs before bording (and after buying the ticket). The money dealers will cost you about 5 CHF/4.40€ for changing, so make sure you don’t have too much money to change. For leaving Guyana you need to fill out a paper again and you need the yellow fever card. At about 8:00 border control opens and you get the stamp. Then you have to wait again and finally you can bord. Remember it is illegal to cross the border with another ship than the official ferry.
First steps in Suriname
After arriving in Suriname you have normal passport control, make sure to use the non Caribbean file, and goods declaration. Suriname welcomes you with cakes and soda for everybody. There is also free guest wifi at the border control. Leaving the building, taxi drivers and bus drivers are waiting for you. If you have enough money you can directly continue to Paramaribo, if not, you can take a bus to Nieuw Nickerie for 50 SRD (6.75 CHF/5.94€). Tell the bus driver that you need a cheap hotel and he will drive you to one. Cheap means 75 SRD per night (10.10 CHF/8.92€). But don’t stay at the hotel de Vesting, it’s very run down and unprofessional. Remember Suriname is one hour in advance to Guyana.
