What to see around Leticia
Leticia is the place in the Amazon jungle of Colombia tourists can visit without worries. It’s located at the very south of the country at the border to Brazil and Peru. Most people come to Leticia to do a jungle tour or catch a boat to Manaus (Brazil) or Iquitos (Peru). But you can also visit some things on your own.
Therefore I recommend to visit the village of Puerto Nariño, which is 70 km up the river. A one way ticket for a speed boat costs you 31’000 Col$ (9.55$). There you can stay for some nights and it’s much nicer than Leticia. You can also book a jungle tour in Puerto Nariño. For 30’000-50’000 Col$ (9.25-15.25$) you can hire a guide that takes you to the lake of Tarapoto, where you can observe river dolphins. Furthermore you visit an indigenous community and make a break for a short bath.
Puerto Nariño has also a watch tower to have a nice view over the amazon river and forest and a small ethical museum (the entrance fee is included in the tourist tax you have to pay upon arrival 10’000 Col$/3.10$).
By the way arriving in Leticia Airport you also have to pay a tourist tax of 32’000 Col$ (9.90$).
